Large excavator bucket wheel electrical drive - has sliding stator on shaft and rotor on bucket wheel

The electrical drive for bucket wheels of large excavators and loaders has a stator which is connected to the fixed shaft of the bucket wheel. The rotor rotates with its pole pieces about this shaft. No mechanical drive is used with associated complicated systems and energy losses. Power is more efficiently transmitted to bucket wheels which can have relatively large dimensions. The wheel (38) with pole pieces of the rotor is fastened on the bucket wheel (44). The stator together with its support is held on the bucket wheel shaft (10) so that it can be axially displaced. The wheel (38) is held by radial arms on the hub (42) on the shaft.
