1466241 Furnace linings ZIRCONAL PROCESSES Ltd 29 March 1974 [28 June 1973] 30736/73 Heading F4B A lining element for the hot-face surface of a furnace or oven comprises refractory fibres (e.g. ceramic fibres) positioned end-on to a support. The lining element is manufactured by a method which comprises cutting a sheet of refractory fibrous material having fibres extending in a first direction parallel to the flat plane of the sheet into strips 8, Fig. 3 (not shown), the cuts extending laterally relatively to the first direction, attaching by means of a refractory cement 6, the strips 8 to a support 3 with the fibres in each strip positioned end-on to the support, the support comprising a layer 3 of heat insulating block material and being provided, either before or after attachment of the strips, with a backing- metal sheet 1 and a further heat-insulating layer 2 clamped between the metal sheet 1 and the block material 3. Sheet 1 may be steel. Layer 2 may be mineral wool. Material 3 may be vermiculite block. Strips 8 of ceramic fibre may be made rigid by impregnation methods. |
