1466204 Electro-phoretic coating with metals GENERAL MOTORS CORP 6 Aug 1975 [27 Nov 1974] 32856/75 Heading C7B A powder mixture consisting of 3-4 parts Al and 1 part of an alloy of 70-80% Cr, the balance Al, is electro-phoretically deposited on a Co or Ni based super-alloy, followed by heating optionally under H2 at 1875-1925‹F for at least 5 hours to form a Cr-Al diffusion alloy with the substrate. Gas turbine engine parts may be coated, with cooling to below 1000‹F under H 2 and a sub- sequent grit-blast cleaning and re-heat to 1300‹F to form an oxide layer. The diffusion alloy may have a thickness of 0.5-5 mils. The Co super-alloy contains, in wt. per cent, 50-70 Co, 20-30 Cr, 0-10.5 Ni, 0-11 W, 0-7 in total of one or more of Ti, B, Si, Fe, Ta, Nb, and no more than 1 each of C, Mn, Si. The Ni super-alloy contains 40-80 Ni, 5-20 Cr and up to the stated %'s of the following; 10 Mo, 5.5 Ti, 6.5 Al, 3 Nb, 9 Ta, 13.5 W, 2 Hf, 1 Re, 1.5 V, 20 Co, 3 Fe and 1 of C, B, Zr, Si, Mn. Either alloy may contain S, Cu or P as incidental impurities. Cathodic deposition is used with isopropanol/nitromethane suspension medium containing Co nitrate and zein. |
