1466261 Lubricants SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 7 March 1974 [9 March 1973] 11455/73 Heading C5F In the non-destructive deforming of metals, the lubricant used is a suspension in a non- volatile hydrocarbon oil of a thermoplastic rubber which is a block copolymer comprising non-elastomeric blocks A of a monoalkenylarene and elastomeric blocks B of a conjugated diene, which blocks may be partially or completely hydrogenated. The number of blocks B is preferably one, but may be up to 5; the number of blocks A is one more than the number of blocks B. "Non-volatile" is defined as not more volatile than spindle oil, which is the preferred hydrocarbon oil. Preferred monomers are styrene and butadiene or isoprene. The composition may also comprise a volatile oil or volatile liquid hydrocarbon, e.g. toluene. The rubber may also contain fillers, antioxidants, stabilizers and plasticizers. Steel sheets to be deformed may be coated with the lubricant by spraying, dipping or brushing. |
