1465797 Syringes D KAMEN 20 May 1974 [2 July 1973] 22337/74 Heading F1R [Also in Division A5] A device for dispensing medication from a syringe by linear displacement of a plunger thereof comprises a motor 24 which turns a lead screw 22 connected to a follower 18 which operates the syringe, a striker arm 80 on screw 22 which contacts a switch contact 82 to emit an electric pulse during each rotation of the screw 22 and a pulse-counting circuit arranged to permit operation of the motor for a pre-selected number of pulses, whereby in use medication is dispensed from the syringe in an amount dependant upon the number of revolutions of the lead screw. The pulse-counting circuit includes an oscillator to generate regular pulses during the time the motor is off, whereby the motor 24 may be operated to dispense medication between selected equal intervals of non-dispersing. Controls are provided to pre-set the number of revolutions of the screw 22 required for each dose and to pre-set the time between doses. A scale is provided on the side of the box to allow conversion of the required dosage volume as marked on the syringe to a number of revolutions of the screw 22. A clutch mechanism 136 is provided between the motor 24 and the screw 22, which disengages drive if a buildup of pressure occurs in the syringe. A limit switch 91 is provided to actuate a signal device to indicate the end of an injection stroke. A light, Fig. 5 (not shown), is provided which lights during each electric pulse. An over-ride switch is provided for giving an immediate injection of the pre-set dose.
