BIS-(4-HYDROXYPHENYL) METHANE DERIVATIVES AND PROCESSES FOR THEIR PREPARATION

1417893 Bis-(hydroxyphenyl) methane Sulphate derivatives SANDOZ Ltd 30 May 1973 [1 June 1972] 25705/73 Heading C2C Novel compounds (I) (including salts thereof) where R 1 is H, benzyl or -SO 3 H, are made by treating compounds (II) with XSO 2 OH (X is Cl or Br and R 1 11 is benzyl or H) or by hydrogenating compounds (I) where R 1 is benzyl. Bis - (p - benzyloxyphenyl)methane andα- (p - benzylcryphenyl) - p - cresol are made by interacting bis-(p-hydroxyphenyl)methane and benzyl chloride in the presence of NaH and dimethylformamide. Pharmaceutical preparations having hypolipidemic action contain (I) as active ingredient. Administration is, e.g. orally.
