The transducer head has two spaced pole pieces to provide a variable magnetic field between them, varying in proportion to the current through the head winding. The audio signals are recorded on the tape by supplying a signal to the head obtained by adding the real signal from the low frequency amplifier to the erase signal from the ultrasonic amplifier, to which the head is simultaneously connected. Pref. a multi-way selector switch is used to connect the output(s) to the transducer head and to disconnect the two poles from the input of the read amplifier. This system eliminates the need for a separate erase stage, and thus simplifies the drive system for the transducer head.
|
