1387567 Soap plodder UNILEVER Ltd 6 March 1972 [8 March 1971 1 July 1971 10 Dec 1971] 6284/71 30783/71 and 57385/71 Heading B5A In a soap plodder the soap or synthetic detergent mass is forced through a perforated plate 1 to form rods between which liquid is introduced, and the rods are compressed together in a converging extrusion nozzle to emerge through a die 7 as a continuous mass containing striations of the liquid. Different liquids, e.g. dye solutions, pearlescent pigment dispersions, perfumes and germicides, are injected at points 10, 11 into semicircular conduits 12, 13 communicating with conduits 14 having apertures 15 facing downstream within the holes 9 of plate 1. A central dividing plate 16 extends downstream from plate 1. The holes 9 may be irregular or star-shaped to increase the surface area of the rods and therefore the striations. In another embodiment (Figs. 5, 7, not shown) liquid is injected downstream of the perforated plate by two pairs of nozzles mounted on the plate and supplying different liquids through non-return valves. A second perforated plate (19) is used to produce more diffuse striations. The extruded soap is cut into billets and may be twisted or stamped end-on or obliquely to modify the striations.
|
