(A) Sprio cpds. of formula (I) where R = H or 1-6C acyl) are new: Also new are 2,6,10,10-tetramethyl-1-oxa-spiro [4,5] dec-3-en-6-ol (VIII) and 6,7-epoxy-2,6,10,10-tetramethyl-1 oxa-spiro [4,5] decane (V). the cpds. are prepd. from cpds. of type (II) which are first cyclised to (III). The double bond is expoxidised and the prod. is reduced and esterified. (I) modify the taste and smell of e.g. perfumes, soaps, detergents, cosmetics, food, animal feeds, pharmaceutical preparations, tobacco etc. (VIII) and (V) are inters for (I). |
