Ski has a low density rigid foam core contained in a thin-wall laminate casing, the sidewalls and underside of the structure being stiffened and protected by 'L' or 'U' section profiles which locate the longitudinal recesses along the lower edges of the body. The upper and lower faces of the ski are covered with thin layers of low friction material. Esp. for cross-country skis. The ancillary profiles allow the overall ski wt. to be reduced by stiffening the outer edges and allowing a lower density core to be used. They also protect the laminate skin from abrasion or puncture. The ancillary profile(s) are pref. made of ABS copolymer by extrusion as constant profiles which may be machined or reshaped to reduce their depth towards each end of the ski. Use of 'U' shaped profile may avoid need for an ancillary low friction cover.
|
