Powdered paint coating of articles - by dipping in fluidised bed of electrically charged paint particles

The process uses a tank containing the paint particles with an air inlet in the base and an extraction frame around the top into which the articles to be coated are dipped by means of a chain conveyor and insulated suspension unit. The items are oppositely charged prior to immersion. The dip tank (1) has a base (2) which is fed with ionised air through a pipe (4), and an extraction frame (3) surrounding the upper edge. Powder material is fed from a reservoir (5) through an ionising unit (6) and control unit (7) into the tank to a level (8). A chain conveyor (9) transports the articles (13), suspended on insulated members (11), to the tank and drops to a low point, where an opposing potential to the particles is applied, submerging the items in the fluidised paint particles.
