As shown in Fig. 1, the domains 3 in the plate 1 are restricted within the width of the groove, and in a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the groove contains a permalloy T-bar propagation structure. The domain path 7, Fig. 2, may alternatively be defined by two narrow grooves or scratches 5, 6 between which the domains are located. A domain propagation structure consisting of wire loops or permalloy may be located between adjacent grooves, Fig. 4 (not shown). In Fig. 5, the domains 14 in a magnetic plate 11 follow a sinuous path 13<SP>1</SP> formed by a scratch pattern 13. The domains may be recirculated by following a feedback scratch pattern 15 which is coupled with domain transporting loops 16, 17. The circulating arrangement of Fig. 5, may be completely filled with domains and magnetically coupled to a further magnetic plate, 20, Fig. 6, in which a scratch pattern 24 is preferably formed. By stepping the domains filling plate 11 around the closed propagation path, a domain introduced at 22 in the further plate 20 is correspondingly transported along a sinuous path 20 to an output position 23. In a similar two-plate arrangement, Fig. 7 (not shown), a plurality of domains introduced simultaneously in the further magnetic plate are moved in parallel along linear paths to an output region. It is stated that domains may be moved by the heating effect of a deflected light beam.
