The ingot moulds have a thick annular casing accommodating the molten metal. A groove is formed where a crack appears in the inner or outer face of the mould, and holes are drilled and tapped in the base of the groove to accommodate anchoring devices. The groove is then filled in and sealed by deposition of molten metal. The anchoring devices can be in the form of headed screws, and the walls of the groove can be inclined to a plane at right angles to the face in which the crack is formed. The filling metal can completely cover the anchoring devices.
|
