The cable guide device traverses across the face of a reel and comprises a frame (1) with two pairs (2, 3) of vertical guide rollers. The cable (12), resting on a horizontal roller (41), passes between the first fixed pair of rollers (2) and through the second pair (3) mounted at the ends of a V-shaped arm (14) pivotal by a chain transmission connected to a control device (16). When the cable reaches the ends of the reel the operator moves device (16) on the drive sprocket and the V-shaped arm lays the cable into the corners.
