<p>The steering servo has a cylindrical outer shell (1) provided with a gearing driven by the output pinion of the servo motor. The manual control for the steering moves a segmented cylinder (10) between the spaced ends of a coil spring (14). This provides the manual torque control which initiates the servo force. In order to provide a smooth changeover from manual to servo assisted steering the coil spring presses against the inside face of the outer cylinder, whose surface is coated with a friction layer (12). This acts as a simple friction clutch, as the spring is operated.</p> |
