Liq. crystal display - with molecular orientation by interfaces of insulating material

<p>The electrode patterns of the two parallel insulated support plates bounding the liq. crystal layer are both coated with a soft homogeneous insulation material which is then in turn patterned with a density pached set of parallel micro-grooves. The layer is eg. of MgF2 striated with a harder material or is a thermoplastic or photo-sensitive varnish illuminated with a Moire fringe pattern by two coherent light sources, developed and then etched by oblique particle bombardment using loss ions or glass microspheres. Simple releable method of molecular orientation.</p>
