<p>The brake drum, or the brake disc support is made with an opening to the outside of the vehicle, covered by a removable plate. The wheel is bolted to the outside ring of the drum or support. The plate can thus be removed without removing the wheel. The design allows access to the brake mechanism without removing the wheel, or a conventional brake drum, which is often seized on. The plate also allows access to the outer bearing seal for greasing and inspection. The brake mechanism is supported on taper roller bearings on the hub. The hub can also include internal gearing and a universal joint to accommodate suspension movement.</p> |
