Non-mechanical printer operates electrostically or electrographically whereby the charge image of the information to be printed is formed on an intermediary carrier. The image is developed with the aid of a toner. The intermediary carrier comprises a band which moves at a constant speed in the direction of the line which is to be printed on the recording surface. This latter surface (SP) and the intermediary carrier (ZT) move between a first electrode (EP) and a guide plae (FP) in the image transfer unit (UR). An air gap (LS) is thereby maintained between the band (ZT) and the recording surface (SP) so that the toner image can be transferred from the band to the surface by applying a voltage impulse to the electrode (EP).
