1518304 Collecting gases generated during discharge of coke ovens H HOLTER 18 Aug 1975 [21 Aug 1974] 34210/75 Headings F4B and F4X Apparatus for collecting and removing fumes generated when coke is discharged from a coke oven battery into a quench truck 9 and transported to a quench tower 23 comprises a roof 13 extending lengthwise of the coke oven battery above the quench truck 9, a deflector baffle 33 extending downwardly from the roof towards the truck 9, a main extractor duct 26, and control means to establish progressive communication between the extractor duct 26 and successive regions of the space below the roof as the quench truck passes therebeneath. As shown, the roof 13 has an inclined region 18 provided with openings 24 to which spaced apart branch ducts 25 are connected, each said duct 25 being associated with one region of the roof space and opening into the main extractor duct 26. A second extractor duct 19 having a continuous suction slot 20 on its underside is provided to remove gases emerging from the oven doors. The ducts 19 and 20 are connected with suction fans 22 and 32 respectively in the region of the quench tower 23. Each branch duct 25 is provided with a flap valve 30 adapted to be opened or closed by remote control means, the valves 30 being controlled in such a manner that only those valves 30 will be open which are actually situated above the quench truck 9; all other valves 30 will be closed. Baffle 33 coacts with a device mounted on the truck 9 to form a guide causing the fumes to be directed towards the openings 24 in the roof 13. The device includes sector-shaped ducts 34 pivotally mounted at forward and rearward regions of the truck. End portions of the ducts 34 are interconnected by a deflector member 37, and the ducts 34 are connected to a fan (not shown) which creates a forced draught of air issuing from slits provided in the upwardly facing side of each duct 34. |
