A wick is used for a writing instrument. It is made of sintered plastics, and has a writing surface of material which has different degrees of hardness to the remainder of the wick material in the sintered state. The writing surface may be either harder or softer than the remaining parts of the wick. Pref. the whole tip of the wick consists of plastics which has a different degree of hardness to the remainder of the wick, or only the outer shell of the tip. (3) may be as hardened. Normally the tip (4) is required to be harder than the remainder of the wick (5). Previously manufactured wicks had the same degree of hardness overall.
