A PROCESS FOR PRODUCING HYDROCARBONS AND THE CATALYST USED THEREIN This invention relates to an improvement in a Fischer Tropsch catalytic process of synthesizing a hydrocarbon stream and to the catalyst used therein. The process may be used for synthesizing a high percentage of C2 - C4 hydrocarbons or for synthesizing a high percentage of liquid hydrocarbons in the gasoline and diesel fuel range while obtaining excellent conversion percentages by varying the process conditions. A high percentage of C2-C4 hydrocarbons is obtained by conducting said reaction at a temperature of from about 275.degree. to 375.degree.C, a pressure of from about 75 to 350 psi, a space velocity of about 50 to 400 hours -1 in the presence of the novel catalyst. A high percentage of liquid hydrocarbons in the gasoline and diesel fuel range is obtained by conducting said reaction at a temperature of from 225 to 275.degree.C, a pressure of from about 200 to 350 psig, a space velocity of from about 50 to 300 hours -1 in the presence of the novel catalyst. The novel catalyst comprises from about 100 to 1 parts iron per part copper, the catalyst being carried on a support selected from the group consisting of a zeolite, silica-alumina and mixtures thereof. |
