Arc welding electrode comprises an iron base core with semi-basic outer layer of compsn:- 45-75% metal powder 8-15% deoxidants, 10-20% MgCO3 and/or MgO, 0-4% CaCO3 (or BaCO3 equivalent) 0-5% fluorides, 8-15% TiO2 or ZrO2, 2-8% iron oxides and opt. org. materials, alginates, kaolin or bentonite, total of 5%, the components being bound together with 15-30 wt. pts alkali silicates per 100 pts powder. The electrode is used for welding plates of mild or medium steel or low alloy steels. |
