1465412 Vertical take-off aircraft J R COXON 14 Feb 1975 [13 March 1974] 11260/74 Heading B7G [Also in Division F2] An aircraft is provided with air-discharge openings 24, 26, (25), (27), Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), near the leading edge of its wings, the openings communicating via ducts 16, 19 with engine-driven blowers 12, 13 and directing air over both the upper and lower surfaces of the wings, and it is stated that the velocity and volume of the airstreams produced are capable of creating sufficient lift to provide vertical take-off. Discharge openings are also provided on the wing flaps 6, 7, and on the tailplane 4 and tail fin 5. The rearwardlydirected air streams also provide the thrust for forward flight, and additional engines (not shown) to produce forward thrust may be provided.
