<p>1465459 Coating composition E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 29 July 1975 [30 July 1974] 31702/75 Heading C3B An aqueous coating composition, having a pH of 7À2-10, comprises, uniformly dispersed in the aqueous medium, as film former: (A) 50-97% by wt. (of the total film former), of a polymer which is the reaction product of (I) an epoxy resin ester and (II) a maleinized drying oil, the polymer having an acid number of 20- 100; and correspondingly 3-50% by wt. of a water dispersible cross-linking agent (III), The composition contains sufficient base (IV) to maintain the pH. The composition may additionally contain 0À5-50% by wt. of the film former of pigment. I may be prepared by reacting a diglycidyl ether of a bisphenol with drying oil fatty acid. II may be obtained by reaction of maleic anhydride and a drying oil. III may be a phenol formaldehyde, urea formaldehyde or benzoguanamine formaldehyde resin or a C 1-4 alkyl ether thereof. IV may be an alkali metal hydroxide, a mono- or poly-amine or a hydroxyamine. The composition may be used in electrodeposition using 2-35% by wt. of film formers.</p> |
