1465364 Rollers CROSFIELD ELECTRONICS Ltd 24 Feb 1975 [28 Feb 1974] 9113/74 Heading F2U [Also in Division B6] A roller, e.g. a gravure cylinder blank (see Division B6), is produced by wrapping a flexible layer 10 having a regular pattern of recesses or holes around a cylindrical substrate 12, and filling the holes or recesses with a different material before, during or after the wrapping step. The flexible layer is preferably copper mesh; the filling material may be an epoxy resin or a second metal. The filling material may be poured on to the mesh after attachment to the cylinder by a P.T.F.E. peg 14, and allowed to harden; alternatively, the filling material is applied to the mesh before the latter is adhered to the substrate; in a third embodiment, the filling material is spread over the cylinder, the mesh is wrapped around the coated cylinder and heat or pressure applied to form the filling material into the holes. |
