<p>Autoclaves and chemical process containers (1) are often subjected to high internal pressures and temperatures. The high pressures are usually counteracted by externally fitted hoops (4) under tension and usually of special high strength steel, often laminated. In principle, the hoops (4) are made to bear on ferrules (51) made of softer, weldable steel. Intermediate cover sleeves (6) of inverted U section are then fitted between the hoops and welded to the ferrules to form channels (I, II) for the cooling fluid. In a variant, the ferrules are made U shaped in section, the cover sleeves then being simply cylindrical.</p> |
