An internal combustion engine which generates electrical current directly by means of a coil attached to the piston which generates a current in a coil surrounding the cylinder, as in the main patent uses a method of protecting the piston coil from overheating. The piston coil (10) which was originally fitted inside the piston (6) is now fitted underneath. The coil (7) which surrounds the piston is now enclosed in a water jacket. Two additional coils (26, 27) decelerate the piston at each end of its stroke. These coils are connected to a power source (29) through a polarity inverter (28) with a logic device (25) to reverse the current direction at the correct moment to bring the piston to rest.
