Electric motor speed regulator - uses shaft:linked fly:ball governor to break and make supply contacts and control speed

The electric motor has its shaft linked to a fly-ball governor that operates a contact in the supply circuit in order to conserve energy by keeping the motor speed constant. The motor shaft (2) has a flywheel (5) attached. It is linked via a bevel gear to the stub shaft that carries the flyball governor (9). A contact strip (10) is fixed to the bottom of the governors moving collar and causes the supply to an electromagnet to be made or broken according as the motor shaft reaches a given speed or drops below it. The electromagnets piston armature operates a circuit breaker in the motor supply circuit.
