<p>A diode for millimetric waves e.g. suitable for frequencies greater than 3 G hz is mounted in a waveguide support, extending into its rectangular opening (1), mounted between two conductors (4, 5). The upper conductor (4) has a tongue (7) carrying the semiconductor slice (2) which carries a set of mesas. The lower conductor (5) terminates in a rounded point and a gold wire (8) connects the tip to one of the mesas, being attached by pressure under heat. The semiconductor may be attached to the upper conductor by a gold plated nickle connection. The design is intended to prevent failure during movement, resulting in vibration and shock, and also to withstand heat.</p> |
