<p>The potatoes and root crops are grown in containers, each being a truncated pyramid. Several containers are used, arranged in tiers around a central column, the largest at the bottom. The whole arrangement fits on a base, fitted with castors for mobility. Each container has a number of holes in the lower third of its sides. When filling with earth, tubes are inserted into these holes, into the container and projecting outside. The plants are placed into additional holes in the upper third of each container. As the tubers develop, the tubes are removed to give room for growth.</p> |
