<p>The automatic steering-mechanism is mounted at the front of the harvester on the end of the cutter, and comprises a direction-sensor connected to two switches. When the sensor touches the crop, one switch is closed, and a relay-coil is excited. A further switch opens when the driving wheels turn away from the crop. When the sensor no longer feels the crop, and the second switch is closed, a second relay coil is excited. A further switch opens when the driving wheels diverge in the contrary direction, from the machine's set course, towards the crop. Another switch only opens if the minimum deflection angle has been reached. The signal is transmitted to an electric motor connected to batteries or to two motors joined to one battery. Alternatively, a hydraulic circuit incorporates a gate controlled by relays.</p> |
