The operating attachment is for an automatic letter writing machine equipped with data storage which has a selection switch with indices for the data available. The attachment consists of a number of signature folders, the quantity of which corresponds to the number of data areas. Their longitudinal edges have index type cut out co-ordinated with the available data areas and/or other indices. These are all fitted in an index card style box, the size of which depends on the number of signature folders to be stored. The operating attachment has two rigid covers each having a link connection to a spine plate with all three elements forming a 'U' shaped stand unit which conforms to the format of the folder and the quantity of folders required for use.
