<p>Wood chip mats containing adhesive are hot pressed between electrically heated presser plates and during a first pressing period the temperature of the plates is gradually increased to a desired level under programme control, after which the temperature is maintained constant at this level until the end of the pressing operation. A wood chip panel is produced. The residual moisture contained in the resulting panel is controlled to be 1-4% thereby making a better quality panel. Pref. during the first pressing period the pressure applied to the panel is also under programme control and is then rapidly reduced to a value just below the vapour pressure of the water contained in the panel. Gradually towards the end of the overall pressing operation the pressure is reduced to zero. Pref. the temperature is controlled to produce a temperature gradient in the panel below 0.50 degrees C/S.</p> |
