The underside of the vehicle is fitted with ring main linked to an air compressor, drive off the transmission. The ring main supplies a set of air nozzles (7) which clear the road surface immediately in front of the wheels of water. The air jets are directed inwards at selected angels and the water spray is deflected down onto the road by a special flap under the rear edge of the car. No mud flaps are required. The system is provided with extending nozzles which are retracted in dry weather, to prevent damage. Alternatively they can be mounted on flexile supports to reduce damage if struck by an obstacle.
