Positive nickel electrode of thickened out type consists of current collector and paste comprising active material based on powdered nickel hydroxide, conducting material consisting of mixture of conducting particles and conducting fibres, and at least one polymer binder. The particles have average dimension D1 ≤ D divided by 20, and said fibres having a dimension D2 ≤ D and length L2 ≥ D2 x 25 (where D = mean diameter of powdered material).
