<p>The trailer is fitted with a steerable front axle (1) linked to the towbar (4). The towbar is provided with a telescopic section (6) which is compressed by the reaction force on braking. A leverl (8b) pivotted between the towbar and the axle steering pivot (2) swings under the reaction force and operates a brake band around the steering pivot. This locks the steering of the trailer during braking, as well as during severe retardation. This prevents the trailer from snaking, especially on downhill runs and during emergency braking. The brake band is in halves, adjustable relative to the pivot so that the band is just off the brake surface when unstressed.</p> |
