Device by means of which the central column of an office type chair may be adjusted for various seat heights having a lever to operate a release lock by means of which the seat surface carried on the central column can be locked into position. The pivot lever (4) is constructed with a rod (5) which engages with the setting device (2). - This rod (5) is of marginally shorter than the internal diameter of the setting device (2) and forms a frictional coupling with the end of the first lever (4).
