SUBSTANCE: complexing agent includes symmetrical 1,2-diacylhydrazines of formula: R<SB>1</SB>-C(O)NHNHC(O)-R<SB>2</SB> wherein R<SB>1</SB> and R<SB>2</SB> are C<SB>2</SB>H<SB>5</SB>-C<SB>5</SB>H<SB>11</SB> acyl radicals or industrial mixtures thereof as mixtures in alcohol or alkali at diacylhydrazine to [Me<SP>n+</SP>] molar ratio of (0.2- 0.5):1, and metal ions are subsequently withdrawn as insoluble complexes.
