The process is intended for making a double-walled vessel to produce a jacket for a heat transfer medium. A pipe (3) is wound around the outside of the inner wall (1) of the vessel and welded (4, 5) to that wall, and strip material is welded (7, 8) between adjacent pipes to form the outer wall (6). The strips are not in contact with one another. The pipe is subsequently cut (9) lengthwise on the outside. The pipe may be wound as a helix around the inner wall, and the outer wall may also be a helically wound strip.
