<p>The tunnelling machine has a rear member (41) carrying telescopic cylinders (31) which push forwards and backwards a front member (16) from which extends a drive unit (14) carrying a rotary cutter (20) which can be swung up and down by further cylinders (17) to make curved cuts (12) at the working face, the whole system being supported by horizontal rails attached by shoes to the curved tunnel lining, arms extending sideways from the machine fitting inside the U-shaped rails. U section ring shaped tunnel lining members (13) are embedded in the concrete, and these are placed in position by a cantilevered framework (36, 38) supported on the front member which can be moved telescopically by further cylinders (39) and tilted by another cylinder (40) on the forward section (36).</p> |
