PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject hair dye good in extensibility and spreadability, scarcely secondarily sticking, excellent in water resistance and capable of dyeing hair without hardening the hair by including an alkyl-modified carboxyvinyl polymer, an oil, a hydrophobizing treated powder and a silicone rubber. SOLUTION: This hair dye is obtained by including (A) an alkyl-modified carboxyvinyl polymer [e.g. CARBOPOL 1342 (R)], (B) an oil (e.g. decamethylcyclopentasiloxane), (C) a hydrophobizing treated powder, preferably a powder treated with a surface treating agent such as a silicone, etc., and (D) a silicone rubber represented by the formula [R1 is methyl or partially phenyl; R2 is methyl or OH; (n) is 3,000-20,000]. In the above hair dye, 0.01-3.0 wt.% of the ingredient A, 2.0-50.0 wt.% of the ingredient B, 0.1-10.0 wt.% of the ingredient C and 0.1-20.0 wt.% of the ingredient D are preferably contained.
