<p>1456931 Embossed laminated picture W M SWARTZ 13 Feb 1974 [20 Feb 1973] 06487/74 Headings B5N and B5P [Also in Divisions B6 and G5] A picture is produced by printing a design on top of the mirror-like metallic surface of an Al. foil 3 laminated to a paper backing 2 by an adhesive 4, the surface being treated so as to be ink receptive by the application of a lacquer film 6. The design is printed, in part, in translucent ink, and the backing 2 is laminated to a fibreboard backing, the resulting laminate being embossed in register with the design. A layer 8 may colour the mirror-like surface, and the design applied to this layer before a polyethylene, methacrylate or polyester transparent lacquer top coat is applied. Selective areas of the top coat may bear a dulling agent. The fibre board may have an Al. foil coated back or the backings 2 of two pictures may be laminated to opposite surfaces of the same fibreboard before embossing. The design is composed by four colour-separated designs printed by lithography in translucent and opaque inks.</p> |
