1393342 Reserve batteries SILBERKRAFT LEICHTAKKUMULATOREN GmbH 26 March 1973 [29 March 1972] 14502/73 Heading H1B A battery comprises a plurality of button cells 7 stacked in a casing 1, each cell being provided with precharged electrodes 32, 34 which are to be activated by introduction of electrolyte and with an electrolyte-containing vessel 35 disposed below a diaphragm cover 37 for the cell, the battery including means for applying pressure to the diaphragm covers 37 to break vessels 35. As shown annular spacers 8 provide shoulders supporting the individual cells and have aligned pairs of webs 11 providing a duct 13 connected to a source of pneumatic or hydraulic pressure. The duct 13 is completed by a longitudinally extending cover member (12), (Fig. 3, not shown) and transverse ducts 14 lead through each spacer into the enclosed space above the diaphragm covers. Duct 13 communicates with a chamber 21 as the top of the battery casing containing a substance which will produce gas, e.g. on ignition electrically, the gas acting directly on the diaphragm covers 37. Alternatively the gas may act on liquid contained in the ducts or a gas cartridge may be employed. The cells are preferably those forming the subject of Specification 1,393,341. |
