<p>Isocoumarin derivatives of formula (I) and their salts are new (where A is an alkyl bridge; n=0 or 1; X is H or -COOH; R anD R' are H, alkoxy or alkyl; such that R, R1 and X are not all H). Cpds. (I) are esp. useful in th prevention of asthmatiform bronchitis caused by allergies. A typical cpd. is (I; R=R'=H; X=COOH; n=0). This was prepd. by heating 1 mole phthalic anhydride with 1 mole homophthalic acid. The prod. was obtd. in 60% yield, m.pt. 233 degrees C.</p> |
