The alignment and clamping of two components together is effected by a tapered wedge that permits quick release without the wedge being completely removed. A circular guide pin (11) locates in holes in the two components (5). Midway along its length a rectangular tapered groove is machined to receive a tapered wedge. In the clamped position one end of the wedge projects and has a radiused profile that matches the radius of the guide pin. To release the two components, the wedge is moved until a stop contacts the side of the components. At this point the radiused section is aligned with the guide pin which may then be removed.
