PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the display device to display video images even when a video signal outside its displayable frequency range is inputted. SOLUTION: The display device having a video processing circuit 1 to which video signals of R, G, and B are inputted, a display device 2 which makes a display on the basis of the output of the video processing circuit 1, a drive circuit 6 which drives the display device according to horizontal and vertical synchronizing pulses and a CPU 3 which controls the video processing circuit 1 and drive circuit 6 is provided with a synchronous frequency dividing circuit 5 which divides the frequency of at least one of horizontal and vertical synchronizing pulses supplied to the drive circuit 6 (frequency down-coverting process) into a frequency range under the control of the CPU 3 when a video signal having a scanning frequency higher than the frequency range that the display device is adaptive to for video display is inputted.
