PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a heat developable image forming material less liable to adversely affect the human body and environment, having stability to a change in heat development conditions and less liable to fog by incorporating a reducible silver salt, a reducing agent, a binder and a specified polyhalogen compound on at least one same face of a substrate. SOLUTION: The heat developable image forming material contains a reducible silver salt, a reducing agent, a binder and at least one polyhalogen compound of the formula on at least one same face of the substrate. In the formula, Z1 and Z2 are each halogen, XI is H or an electron withdrawing group, Y1 is -SO2- of -CO-, Q is arylene or a divalent heterocyclic group, L is a divalent combining group, (k) is 0 or 1, M is an n-valent group, (n) is an integer of 2-4, 2-4 symbols (L)k-Q-Y1CZ1Z2X1 may be the same or different, and in the case of n=2, M may be a single bond.
