Variable input output drawer size operating mechanism - is for automatic machines and accommodates different sized documents and objects

A mechanism for automatically altering the geometry of a single drawer is used in an automatic dispensing machine, so that different objects may be accommodated in the same input mechanism. The mechanism is suitable for flat documents. A document or card (8) is inserted into the front of the machine, and is guided between an upper (2) and lower guide carrying two transducers which detect the positions of the edges of the cards. A U-shaped horizontal guide is then driven by an arrangement of electromagnets operating on a spring loaded belt (11) and bar until the width of the drawer is suited to the object in it. A spring loaded (28) vertically moving plate (27) ensures that the height is also correct.
