Prepn. of 13-heptacosene (I), 13-nonacosene (II), 14-nonacosene (III) or their mixts. comprises contacting suitable alkenes with a metathesis catalyst having low activity w.r.t. the isomerisation and cationic oligomerisation of alkenes. The cis isomers of (I)-(III) are essential components of sexual pheromone system of Musca autumnalis, and can thus be used in attractants for the selective control of this insect pest. (I) is prepd. by contacting a mixt. of 1-teradecene and 2-hexadecene with a MoO3/CoO/Al2O3 catalyst.(II) is prepd. by reacting 1-teradecene with 2-octadecene. (III) is prepd. by reacting 2-hexadecene or 1-pentadecene with 1-hexadecene.
