New sulphonamide derivs. are of formula (I) In this formula, R1, R2, R1' and R2' are H or H and the dichlorobenzene-4-sulphonyl residue in a ratio of 2.5:1 to 4:1; M is alkali or ammonium; and n is 1 or 2. In the pH range of 3-9, (I) have outstanding protein-coagulating activity. They are useful as additives to cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations for treatment of the skin and mucous membranes. (I) also have good absorption in the erythema-causing range of the UV spectrum. In an example, a cpd. (I) in which R1=R2=R1'=R2'=H, n=1, M=NH4 is prepd. from 2,4-bis(sulphanilamido)benzenesulphonic acid by reacting the latter cpd. with dichlorobenzenesulphonyl chloride in the presence of calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate.
